It is estimated that within a few decades no large expanse of tropical rainforests will exist. In light of such a forecast, Sinharaja, an enchanting and incredibly beautiful virgin rainforest joins the last few remaining in the world today.
Found in the wet zone, southwest of Sri Lanka, the primeval Sinharaja covers 8,900 hectares of breathtaking continuous forest.
The rainforest’s immense diversity harbours dazzling streams, springs, rivers and waterfalls. More than 60% of the canopy are endemic - many of them extremely rare. Abounding in endemic wildlife, especially birds, the reserve is also home to over 50% of Sri Lanka's endemic species of mammals and butterflies, as well as many kinds of insects, reptiles and rare amphibians. |
